The Mamiya Sekor 1000 DTL is a solid, heavy 35mm SLR from 1968, best known for the feature in its name: DTL stands for dual through-the-lens metering. A switch on the body chooses between an averaging reading of the whole frame and a spot reading from the center. In the late sixties, having both in one camera was unusual.
Everything else is straightforward. The cloth focal-plane shutter is mechanical, running to 1/1000 sec, and the battery powers only the meter, so a dead cell leaves you with a fully working camera and a sunny-16 guess. The meter was designed around a mercury cell that is no longer made, so treat its readings with some suspicion until you have checked them against a known-good meter.
The lens mount is the real attraction. It takes M42 screw-mount lenses, the most widely shared SLR mount of the era, so alongside Mamiya's own Auto Mamiya/Sekor glass you can use Pentax Takumars, Carl Zeiss Jena, Helios and many others, usually for very little money.
It is not light and it is not refined, but a 1000 DTL in good order will shoot for decades. Loaded with HP5 Plus, it is an inexpensive way into a very deep pool of lenses.
