I was sitting in the sand by the Royal Hawaiian Hotel at Waikiki, peacefully watching the sun set, when they arrived and waded out into the water. I was struck by the gracefulness of the young woman, and her tenderness and protectiveness as she held her grandmother's hand, slowly guided her out into the water. Together you can feel the passing of years, the love and legacy of generations.
