Baker Lady of Capilieri

Baker Lady of Capilieri

A wonderfully sweet lady-she was so pleased to have foreign visitors (though it is a known scenic village) that she pressed on us a loaf of her bread (delicious btw) and took affront that we should want to pay for it. Capilieri is another Moorish fairy tale village in the Alpujarra region of Andalusia. It is so isolated that after the Reconquista in 1492 it was not re-discovered until the late 17th century. And when I say isolated I mean you have to head towards town to hunt. And the road to Capilieri you ask? Actually, it is more of a paved goat trail. I squeezed the water out of the steering wheel on the climb up to the village. Glad to have been; ain’ goin’ back.
