Kodak Tri-X 400
What Kodak Tri-X 400 actually looks like — 72 photographs shot on it by members here.
Kodak Tri-X 400 is the black-and-white film most people picture when they think of film photography: visible but tight grain, deep blacks, and a contrast that suits street work, documentary and portraits. Kodak has made Tri-X in one form or another for more than seventy years, and it is still in production in 35mm and 120.
Its reputation rests on how forgiving it is. Tri-X tolerates overexposure well, holds shadow detail at box speed, and pushes cleanly to 800 or 1600 — further if you accept more grain and contrast. It responds to almost any developer, and D-76, HC-110 and Rodinal each give it a slightly different character. For finer grain at the same speed, compare it with Kodak T-Max 400; for a slightly softer look, Ilford HP5 Plus.
