I'd just returned from Vietnam in 1970, was heading to my next duty station in Mississippi after a months home leave. Peter, Paul and Mary's song "Leaving on a Jet Plane" had been playing on the radio. I still wonder who she was, who had given her the rose, where she was headed and why she was leaving; a mystery to this day.
