Ilford HP5 Plus
What Ilford HP5 Plus actually looks like — 37 photographs shot on it by members here.
Ilford HP5 Plus is the other great 400-speed black-and-white film, and the usual alternative to Tri-X. It has a slightly softer, lower-contrast look with a long, smooth tonal range, which makes it easy to print and scan. It is made in England in 35mm, 120 and sheet sizes.
HP5 is known for its exposure latitude and for how well it pushes: 800 and 1600 are routine, and people take it to 3200 for low light if they can live with heavier grain. It is a good first black-and-white film because it is hard to ruin, and a lasting one because it does so much well. For Ilford's finer-grained 400-speed film, see Delta 400; for a slower classic from the same family, FP4 Plus.
