In 1986, the week that Oliver Stone's film Platoon opened in Honolulu, the traveling Vietnam War Memorial "Wall" also came to town, installed on the lawn of the State Capitol. Visiting last one night, I took this time-lapse photograph, and later copied the image to 8x10 CT film and made a contact print from that. I framed and donated the print to the VA Center and also entered the image in the annual Honolulu Magazine photo contest (and won a camera). I remember while I was visiting the Wall that night, a young woman noticed me standing there and asked if I'd served in Vietnam. I admitted that I had, something that I'd learned to keep to myself. She was the first, aside from Family, to say "Welcome home".
