If you're anything like me, you've likely forgotten your spot meter at home more than once. I downloaded an Iphone spot meter a few years ago, and while it had its limitations, it managed to save me quite a few times. It got me wondering if I couldn't develop something better. Something with more options geared towards film.
It's now live in the app store: Film Spot Meter
Not only can it do spot metering, but it also does zone metering, reciprocity failure, and bellows extension. Shooting long exposure? Just choose your film and the app will calculate reciprocity and factor it into your exposure. Shooting macro with a view camera? Just add your bellows extension and the app will calculate proper exposure.
We're charging $4.99 for the app as a one-time purchase. That gives you forever access to the app and all updates. I don't like having subscriptions so I made sure not to make this a subscription based app.
Our users have helped make filmphotography.com a really neat and useful site. The same will happen with the app. Have a suggestion? Let me know and it'll likely show up in the app. Same goes for bugs. I know phone app spot meters are not perfect, but this one gets really close.
Purchasing the app also helps us continue to build new and helpful features into the website, while keeping it ad free.
