Who among us doesn't like purty flowers? That said, I fear that film may have to concede the field of macro photography to digital. I know of no film/lens combination that can compete with even a quotidian digital camera close-in; leaving aside the high end cameras. I've seen really stunning macro images made in digital format.

Challenge accepted :) You’re right though, digital is wildly easier for macro. Not to mention focus stacking, in-body stabilization, etc.
