SITE: "Photographs with the Most Likes" logic

Pardon the category, but there isn't one for the filmphotography.com site, or anything remotely close, so I chose "Development"

I would like to hear something about how the programmatic logic is defined for the "most likes" section of the homepage. (Or any of the sections on the homepage that feature images, and has background reload/refresh functionality). I regularly see lots of photos (some seems more often shown that others) with less likes than some of mine, and it's made me curious to learn more about the backend logic that gets applied.
